Solstice Prayer

Yesterday, I walked out to the ocean

and gave our names to the sand.

The sun dripped like molten sap into the sky.

A horseshoe crab came to me on his back.

I picked him up and placed him on his feet.

He stayed with me for a moment.

The tide slipped under him

and he soared along the glistening dawn.
